HOW TO SPICE THE LESSON WITH POETRY 

 

We all have a soft spot for poetry and poetic expression and this does not often come out in class. We are preoccupied with the standard curricula, our exam-based courses and more often than not, succumb to conventional fossilized teaching methods. The point made in this article is that even in traditional teaching settings we can allow time for activities which  encourage creativity, initiative, cooperation and communication along with individual expression. One way to spice up our lesson is to create a Poetry Gallery Walk.  We all know that when reading a poem we can meet different pleasures, both in what the poem says and how the meaning is expressed. The Poetry Gallery idea, suggested in this article, has a lot in its favour since it develops both receptive and productive skills.
