STORY TELLING WITH A STRONG CROSS CURRICULAR ELEMENT.

 

“Deprive children of stories and you leave them unscripted.” Alister Macintyre The story of Princess Smartypants serves as an example of a story which, without being didactic or preachy, engages children’s hearts and minds with issues that are relevant, real, fun and important to them. It is a feminist type of fairy tale. The story embeds  equality and diversity themes, raises problems to which students are asked to contribute solutions by expressing  personal opinions. Pupils do not feel that English is a chore but a means of communication and enjoyment. I would do this project with C senior students because the challenges which will be posed require some maturity.
