SOWING THE STORY TELLING SEED.

STORY TELLING AND LEARNING GO HAND IN HAND

So we all know that teachers should take students to linguistic and cultural tours and  empower them in the foreign language and culture. To lay the foundations of a creative climate, however, we need to be willing to “let go” and “have a go” at things we have never done before. The trend is now to concentrate on the use of new technologies and to neglect  tried and tested pedagogical approaches which have stood the test of time. We also tend to give in to  parental pressure and  education models which are obsessed with objectives, testing and quick results to the exclusion of broader educational aims. I suggest we think twice. After all, societies, world over, have always used story telling as the prime means of communication. Stories have always held a magical quality and story telling is a free resource which does not need expensive and elaborate equipment to stimulate the latent creativity of our students. What we need is a new mindset and  small changes to make room for stories in our lessons.
