BUILDING THE WRITING SKILL IN STUDENTS. (Part 1)

When we teach composition writing we mainly focus on how one should do essay or letter or article or story writing or the rest of the genres tested at B2 level exams. We   talk of linking words, topic sentences and ambitious vocabulary. But the underlying problem of how words are put  together and how they work together and what roles words play in sentences are never really touched upon systematically at any one time. We hardly know whether students understand the parts of speech, and if they realize how words, the units of language, work together. There is no consistent approach to how we build sentences and a lot is to do with the fact that on the one hand we are always, pressed for time and on the other hand course books or grammar books do not work on such a skill.
